Waterman Receives Healthcare Careers Educational Grant from Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation

Olivia Waterman, a staff nurse at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, is the recipient of the 2020 Healthcare Career Education Grant awarded annually through the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Waterman, of Palmer, was selected after an application process that included personal interviews with Taylorville Memorial Hospital nursing leaders. She will receive $17,500 to assist her as she pursues her Master of Science degree in nursing management and leadership at St. John’s College of Nursing.

“At the direction of the board, we have made a commitment to invest in workforce development at TMH through this grant program. We are proud to support local students pursuing degrees in healthcare with the opportunity to work at or extend their commitment to TMH upon degree completion,” said Raedena Ryan, executive director of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation. “This program is only possible because of the generosity of our donors.”

In September 2019, Waterman joined the Taylorville Memorial Hospital surgery team as a circulator registered nurse, who works alongside surgeons and other healthcare personnel in the operating room. Professionally, Waterman has a strong interest in project management and data collection.

Applications for the Healthcare Career Education Grant are available to any aspiring healthcare professional in the Taylorville Memorial Hospital region. Awards range from $10,000 to $30,000, depending upon the degree being sought. Applications are due on April 1 annually.

“Supporting the studies of students like Olivia reflects the mission of both the foundation and the hospital,” said Billy Williams, president and education assistance committee chairman of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We are confident in our investment in students, the hospital and our community.”
