TMH Foundation ‘Lose-to-Win Challenge’ Top Winner is Sean Fairclough
Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation completed its 33rd session of the Lose-to-Win Challenge and Sean Fairclough of Taylorville takes the win by losing 15.5%.
Over 100 participants participated in the 14 week challenge and lost a combined total of over 914 pounds. Thirty-three of those participants lost 5% of their weight, 10 participants lost over 10% of their weight, and one lost over 15%. Since the inception of the TMH Lose-to-Win Challenge in 2008, the total weight loss from all sessions is 55,758.6 pounds.
“Participants do not follow any specific diet or exercise program, but are encouraged to eat healthy, cut down on calorie intake and increase physical exercise,” states TMH dietitian, Janelle Cornell. “Information on healthy eating and exercise is provided and the program is designed to provide an incentive for people to lose weight.”
Other top finishers who were also awarded cash prizes include: Josi Breckenridge (Taylorville), 2nd place – 13.5%, Mike Unser (Morrisonville), 3rd place – 12.57%, Lisa McKinnie (Morrisonville) 4th place – 12.53 % and Kevin Breckenridge (Taylorville) 5th place – 12.37%. Rounding out the top 10 places included Matt Hutchison (Taylorville - 6th), Jim Moats (Taylorville - 7th), Angela Christian (Taylorville - 8th), Nick Rodgers (Taylorville - 9th) and Paula McCray (Taylorville – 10th).
In the team challenge, team Royal Blue came out on top with 12.05% lost and a combined weight loss of 164.2 pounds. Members of the Royal Blue Team included Josi and Kevin Breckenridge, Sean Fairclough, Matt Hutchison, Julie Lilly, Jim Moats and Dani Prince, all of Taylorville. Team Pink placed second with a combined weight loss of 147.8 pounds or 7.58% and included Angela Christian (Taylorville), Mike and Sheila Unser (Morrisonville), Jennifer Bethard (Morrisonville), Tracy Held (Morrisonville), Christina Lush (Morrisonville) and Becky O’Brien (Morrisonville). Team members who were members of the top two teams in the team challenge earned prize money as well.
Participants also donated food to the Fill-the-Pantry Project. Over 110 pounds of food was donated and will be distributed to local food pantries. Total food collected from all the challenges is now at 6,917 pounds.
The next TMH Foundation Lose-to-Win Challenge is scheduled to begin on January 2 through April 10. Weigh-ins are scheduled every other week on Wednesdays, with flexible times available between 6 am and 6 pm. Weigh-ins are confidential and take place in the privacy of TMH dietitian, Janelle Cornell’s office. Participants are encouraged to attend a meeting on the evening of the weigh-ins but it is not mandatory.
