Applications Open for $1,000 Agriscience and Nutrition Student Scholarship
The Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation is accepting applications for the John H. Butterfield Agriscience and Nutrition Scholarship.
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student who has graduated from a central Illinois high school with priority given to a Christian County resident. Applicants must be enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university with intention to pursue a career in agriscience or food nutrition.
“This scholarship was established by the Butterfield family to honor their father,” said Raedena Ryan, executive director of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation. “Awarding this scholarship to a young person preparing for a career in agriscience or nutrition exemplifies John’s life-long interest in education.”
Raised on a Christian County farm, Butterfield received a degree from the University of Illinois and worked as an appraiser for the Farm Credit Administration before returning to the family farm in 1940. A strong advocate for soil conservation, he served many years on the Soil Conservation Advisory Board as well as being actively involved with the American Soybean Association, National Corn Growers and Feed Grain Council.
